(minor dusting) to Scotland endorsed "Officer's Letter" and initialled "J.B." (Lt. John Bruce; on HMS Cameleon at this date) charged "6" (Officer;s Rate) with fine scarce small London "PACKET-LETTER" (Rob.P6; 1859-63 only), having a 29 May 1863 London backstamp. HMS Cameleon sailed on 25 Mar. 1863 from Guaymas into the Pacific (going to Hawaii & Vancouver) so this letter was clearly sent before she left; it found its way to Panama by 6 May and then caught the RMS Tasmanian sailing from Colon on 9 May - the latter reached Southampton on 28 May, hence the backstamps. MALABAR" flap) to Surrey franked by GB scarce 3d on 3d Lilac o.p. and 1d Lilac both tied/cancelled by unclear ("FB"?) numerals for the 4d rate, with a 2 Oct. 1883 arrival backstamp. The addressee is "Mrs. Arbuthnot" and Geoff's researches show that her husband, Lt. L.C. Arbuthnot was on HMS Malabar at this time en route to India; the ship stopped at St. Vincent on 13 Sept., and the RMS SS Neva took mails from there on 20 Sept., reaching Southampton on 1 Oct. 1883.
