(minor edge wear; dated by sender on front) to Newark ex the 'Pollard' correspondence, spectacularly franked by two Pairs (originally a block of four) and a single GB 6d Grey (pl.14) all tied by slightly heavy London "70" numerals. The writer, Capt. E.J. Pollard was on HMS "Tenedos" at Sandy Point (Punta Arenas) on 15 Aug. when this letter was sent; it was carried by the PSNC SS "Potosi" from there to Bordeaux (the two bags of mail - including this cover - are recorded in P.O. Archives as having been part of the mails dropped off by the SS "Potosi" at Bordeaux instead of at Liverpool, thereby cutting a couple of days off the transit time to Britain.
