| 433 | ISMAY, BRUCE - CHAIRMAN OF WHITE STAR LINE AND SURVIVOR OF THE TITANIC: 1908 (30 Jan) A typed letter from Liverpool to Putney referring to William Marshall (later to become commodore of The White Star Line). The letter is signed "Bruce Ismay" A portion of the letter has been cut out, the missing portion (no text) has been neatly replaced. Bruce Ismay was chairman of TWSL and a survivor of the Titanic. He was accused by Randolph Hearst of ordering the captain of the Titanic to increase speed which led to the fatal disaster. The interesting contents mention the plague and the need for quaranteen, the Druse uprising inc "I had the pleasure (I say pleasure now that I have escaped the rebels) of seeing a village pillaged by several hundred of them under the command of the celebrated chief Dhible Harian so renowned in those parts "He treated me most kindly inviting me to spend a night in his house and promising me protection during my stay and a dozen men to guard me to Beirut, where on arriving our consul was surprised that they had not robbed me and cut my throat besides".
