1751 ST. KILDA - 'TIN CAN MAIL' 1962: Cover addressed to The Times in London with fine strikes in red of the Island's puffin cachet and the boxed 'ST KILDA/TIN CAN MAIL' mark completed with dispatch details; postmarked at Tigharry, Lochmaddy (N.Uist) 10 days later.Accompanying the cover is a letter from the forwarder, a farmer on North Uist, stating it to be part of a mail which comprised one letter and one postcard. 1756 NEWCASTLE-ON-TYNE - LATE USE OF SHIP LETTER MARK ON CARD FROM NORWEGIAN CRUISE SHIP; July 1911 PPC (of"Gudvangen", Norway) to Huddersfield franked by GB KEVII ½d tied by v. fine "NEWCASTLE-ON-TYNE" c.d.s. with matching mostly very fine rare small-lettering "SHIP LETTER/NEWCASTLE-ON-TYNE" (Rob.S6; only recorded by him for 1896, but a few more recorded since, giving Tabeart the date-span 1894-1926) alongside. The message reads; "We have 350 people on Board - we are a lively party". £120

1758 SOUTH SHIELDS - RARE 3-LINE "SHIP LETTER/TYNE DOCK" WITH RARE MATCHING PURPLE "PAQUEBOT"; 23/25 Sept. 1905 PPC (Bergen politician) from "Arendal" to USA (scarce destination) franked by Norway 10o tied by mostly v. fine 2-ring "TYNE DOCKS/SOUTH SHIELDS" c.d.s. matching the mostly fine to very fine (struck over the "Brevkort" imprint) rare "SHIP LETTER/TYNE DOCKS/SOUTH SHIELDS" mark (Rob.S1; only recorded 1900-02 by him, but Tabeart now notes 1900-08) alongside along with a very fine rare purple South Shields "PAQUEBOT" (Rob.P1, only recorded for 1902 by him, but now listed 1897-1908 + 1949-50 by Tabeart). (to Cuttress but with firm's imprint; minor faults) franked by Iceland 20a Brown (2) tied by very fine 2-ring "ABERDEEN" c.d.s.'s with a matching very fine boxed "SHIP LETTER" (Rob.S6; earlier than recorded) alongside; plus off-cover Iceland Geyser 15a & 20a with part rare purple "PAQUEBOT/ABERDEEN" c.s.d.'s (Rob.P1 - proving that the original Robertson illustration was correct), and c.1840 coloured print of Aberdeen harbour. 1760 CAMPBELTOWN - RARE EARLY MARK ON TRANSATLANTIC COVER FROM CANADA; 28 Nov. 1809 EL (the two halves separated for display) from "Quebec" to Ayr charged "2/2" with a mostly fine small "CAMBLETON/SHIP:LRE" (Rob.S1; recorded only 1800-10) on the lower flap.
