** 1115 FRANCIS FREELING INTEREST: 1819 EL to Paris with two-line red "COLCHESTER/Penny Post" with contents referring to lost or stolen banknote halves ("Francis Freeling, Esq., of the Post Office is making necessary enquiries about the other"), 1827 EL addressed to Freeling, basically being an insight into the abuses of franking privileges from Colonel Fitzclarence of the Admiralty (the eldest illegitimate son of King William IV) & an edition of the London Gazette (4 May 1790) with fascinating contents re the sending of banknotes through the post (viz. cutting them in half and sending them under separate cover).
