Arabic-addressed env sent by a soldier (endorsed as such) from Omdurman to Armante franked with first issue 3m. Most unusual. The lower flap is missing. THIS IS THE ONLY FRANKED 3m SOLDIERS' RATE COVER TO HAVE SURVIVED. PHOTO £700

On the reverse are overlapping "ALEXANDRIE" and "TRAVELLING POST/SHELLAL-/HALFA" bilingual transit c.d.s. plus a "HALFA" bilingual arrival c.d.s. Most attractive. PHOTO £120
POSTCARD FROM UK CHARGED 12m POSTAGE DUE ON ARRIVAL:1924 (12 Oct) PPC from London to Port Sudan bearing GB 1924-26 1d with machine cancellation and hexagonal framed "T" with "L" outside at foot struck nearby. Charged 12m (2 x 11⁄2d)postage due by means of Sudan 1901 chalky paper 2m & 10m postage due adhesives tied by bilingual "PORT SUDAN" c.d.s. The reason for the taxed amount is unclear, as 2d (8m) was the UK concession rate. Therefore the tax should have been 8m (2 x 1d deficiency). Poor mathematics!. PHOTO £100
QUADRUPLE WEIGHT COVER FROM UK CHARGED 8m POSTAGE DUE ON ARRIVAL:1936 (20 July) env sent airmail from Warminster to El Fasher, Darfur bearing GB 1936 11⁄2d pair with London hexagonal framed "T" with "L" below plus m/s "120" alongside (120 grames weight) therefore 1d (4m) underpaid charged 8m postage due on arrival by means of a pair of 4m postage due adhesives. AIRMAIL ADHESIVES
1935 15m on 10m SURCHARGE MISPLACED UPWARD - WITH ARABIC ALMOST ABSENT: A very fresh, unmounted example (die B, pos 39) of what was a possibly a trial, or "make ready" impression, in which the spacing between some rows of the surcharging forme were abnormally, widely spaced, with some smashing visible on some of the Arabic letters. The surcharge on this stamp is so severely misplaced upward that the English and Arabic are transposed, the English being from position 44 (at foot) with only the very slightest bit of the Arabic (portions of tail of final mim and dots of ya) of position 39 falling onto the upper margin. PHOTO £120
1935 15m on 10m SURCHARGE MISPLACED UPWARD AND TRANSPOSED:A very fresh, used example (die B, pos 45) with partial "SUDAN (AIRMAIL)" c.d.s., its surcharge so severely misplaced upward that the English and Arabic are transposed, the English being from position 50 (at foot) and Arabic from position 45 (at top). PHOTO £200
1935 15m on 10m SURCHARGE MISPLACED DOWNWARD:A very fresh vertical strip of three (die B, pos 15, 20 & 25), lightly mounted on top stamp only, that stamp showing Arabic surcharge of position 10 at top, with the word "MILLIEMES" of surcharge positions 15 and 20 printed across the lower perforations of stamps no 10 & 15. Also a multiple of three (die B, pos 44, 49 & 50) with surcharge misplaced downward and slightly diagonal, such that the Arabic of position 50 falls onto the lower perforations. (2 items). PHOTO £200
1935 21⁄2pi on 5m SURCHARGE MISPLACED DOWNWARDS AND TRANSPOSED, WITH TYPESETTING VARIETIES:A lightly mounted mint example, from position 46 of the pane, showing at foot the English surcharge, small "1⁄2" variety and at top the Arabic surcharge of position 41 with final "WAW" variety , the latter occurring on only one position of the setting. PHOTO £160
1935 21⁄2pi on 5m SURCHARGE MISPLACED DOWNWARD, WITH TYPESETTING VARIETIES:A fine mint vertical strip of three (pos. 32, 37 and 41), with surcharge dramatically misplaced downward, the top & bottom stamp with small "1⁄2" variety. The Arabic of all three surcharges is printed across the perforations , partly (or largely) falling onto the stamp beneath, the lower stamp being almost completely without its own Arabic surcharge. PHOTO £260
1935 ESSAY OF RED SURCHARGE OF "71⁄2 PIASTRES" ON 41⁄2 PIASTRES, A RARE BLOCK OF FOUR CONTAINING NEAR-UNIQUE TYPESETTING ERRORS: A mint marginal block of four from the left of the sheet (pos 11-12/16-17), two stamps with ARABIC "2" for "1" variety. Usually referred to in error as a "proof surcharge" , it was actually printed by a different forme than the issued stamp, and shows various typesetting errors on a number of the stamps from the pane (it was said by Danson that two such panes were produced). As far as Hass has determined, there were only eight such "2" errors on the pane.Hass Cert (2006). PHOTO £600
1935 ESSAY OF RED SURCHARGE OF "71⁄2 PIASTRES" ON 41⁄2 PIASTRES, A RARE BLOCK OF FOUR CONTAINING NEAR UNIQUE TYPESETTING ERRORS: A mint marginal block of four (pos 31-32/36-37) mounted on one stamp only. The block contains errors of English "1⁄4" for "1⁄2" (pos 32) and inverted Arabic letter "qaf" (pos 36). As far as Hass has determined , there were two such "1⁄4" errors on the pane. Hass Cert (2006). PHOTO £600
1938 TRIAL PROOF OF "5 PIASTRES" SURCHARGE ON 21⁄2pts WITH REVERSED WATERMARK - USED ON PIECE:A fine well centred example, from pos 27 of the only pane of 50 used on envelope piece with an issued 5m on 21⁄2pts stamp, each adhesive neatly tied by a partial (corner) strike of a genuine (1940) SHELLAL HALFA T.P.O. postmark (Dight SH11A). ARMY SERVICE STAMPS
1905 "ARMY OFFICIAL" ON 1m QUATREFOIL WATERMARK:A lightly mounted mint single of this rare adhesive from pos 22 of the setting of 30. Two tiny perf. thins. It should be noted that the majority (approx 90%) of examples of this adhesive in circulation have forged overprints. Hass has identified 18 types of forgery!!. Only 120 are thought to have been produced. This stamp is in our opinion much under-catalogued. PHOTO £160
1905 "ARMY OFFICIAL" ON 1m QUATREFOIL WATERMARK: Another fine lightly mounted mint example from pos 30 of the setting of 30. On the normal setting of thirty subjects, 24 positions of the overprint excluding pos 6 & 12 (small-format font), pos 29 ("OFF!CIAL") & pos 18, 24 & 30 are identically aligned (with reference to the positional relationship of the words "ARMY" & "OFFICIAL"). However, this stamp shows an alignment which is identical to the other 24 positions. This would indicate that movement of the words occurred in position 30 (and possibly pos. 18 & 24) during the overprinting process!. A genuine and Fascinating stamp. Again, approx. 90% of the stamps of this issue are forgeries! Therefore, genuine examples are rarely seen. PHOTO £200
1905 "ARMY "OFFICIAL" INVERTED 1m STAR & CRESCENT WATERMARK - MINT BLOCK OF FOUR: A lightly mounted mint block of four pos 23-24/29-30 of the pane of 30 with INVERTED OVERPRINTS of pos 1-2/7-8 of the 30 subject forme. A rare multiple, one with "ela" h.s. of E.L. Angeloglou also with RPS Cert (1938) and Hass Cert (2006). PHOTO £300
1905 HORIZONTAL "ARMY OFFICIAL" ON 1m STAR AND CRESCENT WATERMARK : A lightly mounted mint single with OVERPRINT TURNED 90 DEGREES ANTICLOCKWISE, WITH "ARMY" UPRIGHT & OFFICIAL" INVERTED. The stamp is from position 27 of the pane of 30 and shows portions of the overprints of pos. 7 (tip of the foot of "L" on left margins) and pos 13 ("OFFIC-" and "-RMY" at right). One of only thirty thus overprinted. RPS Cert (1977). PHOTO £600
1906 "ARMY SERVICE" 5m OVERPRINT TRIPLE: Lightly mounted mint example of this variety. the initial impression of the overprint is grossly misplaced downwards, so that "Service" from two positions on the forme falls across the perforations at top and foot. The second correctly placed overprint is doubly printed , but its two impressions are so closely aligned as to be near perfectly superimposed. SG A9var. Signed "ela" of E.L. Angeloglou and faint "United Stamp Co". guarantee. PHOTO £300
1906 "ARMY SERVICE" 5m OVERPRINT TRIPLE - ONE DIAGONAL: A very fine marginal mint example from the top of the sheet mounted on selvedge only. The initial impression of the overprint is grossly misplaced and diagonal , so that only "Army" is at the lower right corner. The correctly placed overprint is doubly printed , but the impressions are so closely aligned as to be near perfectly superimposed. See article by Hass in the Camel Post No.6 (Sept. 1978). Signed "ela" (E.L. Angeloglou) and Hass Cert (2006). PHOTO £300
"ARMY SERVICE" 2pi (SHORT "Y") - THE ONLY RECORDED MINT EXAMPLE WITH DOUBLE OVERPRINT: A very fine mounted mint example of this great rarity. The only other two recorded examples of this error are used, postmarked at "TALODI" in May 1911. That pair was divided, on both examples the two overprint impressions are very close, nearly superimposed. Such is the case with this mint example which would indicate that it came from the same pane as the "TALODI" pair. In our opinion one of the most important varieties of this issue. Hass Certificate (2007). PHOTO £1500
