The contents give important news of recent events in Ireland and in the War of the Grand Alliance between Anglo-Dutch forces and the French; specific mention is made of the aftermath of the 1st July 1690 Battle of the Boyne; "Athlone is taken by storme & all put to ye sword [that] they found in arms, with ye losse of only 300 men. The towne of Waterford hath also surrendered." There is news of a feared French invasion of Devon near Torbay; "...16 French vessels, appearing to be gallyes, come to an anchor near Torbay,...also in sight 70 sayle of great ships about 3 leagues from ye shore...Such martial rage hath inspired our Female sex against ye French men, that many of them appear in armes."!!
