WORLD WAR I - 11th & 12th NOV. 1918 PAIR OF ARMY/NAVAL TELEGRAM FORMS REF. END OF WAR, ETC.; 11 Nov. 1918 brown Army "MESSAGES & SIGNALS" form (laid down on card) with fair Genech "ARMY SIGNALS" c.d.s. having Cavalry Corps message; "Hostilities will cease at 11.00 today... troops will stand fast on the line reached at that hour..."; plus 12 Nov. 1918 white "NAVAL SIGNAL" form (no c.d.s.) with message from the Grand Fleet commander at "Rosyth" addressed to "German Station"; "...suggest you send a Flag Officer... in a light cruiser to a rendezvous..." [to "effect terms of Armistice"]; important pair. Plus pair of 1914 used KGV 1d P. Stat. "Field Service" PPCs, 1915 "CC/ARMY TELEGRAPHS" c.d.s. on telegram from London Evening News to Sir John French on his birthday, and two PPCs. It is often said that the roots of World War II can be traced to the terms of surrender for World War I. (7 items).

"FIRST DAYS OF THE R.A.F." - POSTCARD SENT ONLY 10 DAYS AFTER THE CHANGE FROM R.F.C. TO R.A.F.:1918 (10 April) PPC with m/s "On Active Service" from "E.H. Smith F19058/215 Squad No 5 Wing" to Plumstead with "RECEIVED FROM H.M. SHIP/NO CHARGE TO BE RAISED" and red censor h.s. of 215 squadron. A very early card from the newly named R.A.F. The following day 11 April the Handley Pages of 215 squadron in bad weather bombed coastal batteries and guns at Mole with little success. A rare early RAF item.PHOTO PLATE 14A

R.A.F. INTERNEES IN BELGIUM: 1940 (Feb./March) covers ex R.A.F. internees in Belgium. The former is from a F/O Kempster who was held at Fort 2, Borsbeek Camp (m/s endorsement on reverse), whilst the latter is from the same airman who had by this time been transferred to Terlaenene Camp and both are to the same address in Birmingham.A scarce pair. Note: All internees were released on 10th May 1940 when Belgium joined the Allies.(2).
