404 LAST DAY 4d POSTAGE CHARGE ON LETTER EX INDIA ARRIVING THAT VERY DAY: 1839 (11 Nov.) EL from India to London endorsed 'Per Steamer from Bombay/Via Hydrabad' (sic) and 'Via/France' having an almost fine red boxed "VIZIANAGZAM/Paid" mark. The letter reached London on 9 Jan., 1840" (last day of Uniform 4d postage period), was re-directed to Dublin the same day with a very fine London inland 9 Jan., 1840 c.d.s. on the front and was charged a further '4' (last day of 4d rate) on the reverse alongside the new address. £100

405 A MOST UNUSUAL DOUBLE USE OF A !d MULREADY LETTER SHEET: 1842 (? Feb.) 1d letter sheet Stereo A44 possibly used from London to Bath cancelled with a red MC. The Mulready was then reversed franked with a 1d red and used from Bath to Salisbury dated 26 Feb. 1842, a note in pencil reads "I have received yours since this was sealed". The env is a little reduced and has other faults. The cover appears to have no dispatch or arrival c.d.s. for the first use. However a very small portion of a red c.d.s. does on close inspection occur on the top flap. This may indicate that the original use was that of a parcel label. Most unusual. PHOTO. £300
