313 MACHINE CANCELLATIONS AND TOWN POSTMARKS: Interesting group of 1930-57 covers on expertly written up leaves inc. five Krag or Universal machine cancellations with different slogans or motif, several different types of c.d.s. from Sliema and one from Victoria, Gozo the latter on an env. addressed to Sir Harry Luke, the former Governor of Malta who by late 1938 was Governor of Fiji (scarce destination). KEVII 1⁄2d adhesive tied by Farnborough double-ring c.d.s. bearing hexagonal-framed "T" with "L" beneath (applied in London), Malta single-ring arrival c.d.s. five days later, exceptionally fine encircled "1D" (Malta Study Circle type PD-12) & Postman's Personal Handstamp 19 and underpaid 1951 env. from Malta to Germany with faint boxed "T" in black, rectangular framed "B Nachgebühr B" in red & m/s 'T11c'. ON PPC: 1923 (26 Sept.) underpaid PPC from Parma to Valletta franked on picture side with 2 x 10c on 2c brown adhesives tied by Parma-Ferrovia c.d.s. and bearing on the other side very fine "T" mark (Malta Study Circle type PDT-1 variety measuring 14mm. x 18mm.) slightly overstruck by equally fine square framed "1D." (some spotting) to France uprated with 2½d blue adhesive cancelled by "MALTA" in five bars (Malta Study Circle type MAB-1) with oval "REGISTERED/ 20 SP 98/MALTA" (M.S.C. type REG-71) well to the left, 1919 env. registered ex Hamrun to Winnipeg franked with KEVII 3d + War Tax ½d adhesives cancelled by M.S.C. type REG-71b with red "R VALLETTA/Malta/No. [375 in m/s]" registered h.s. (M.S.C. type RH2-VAG1) to the left, another example of the latter on further 1919 env. this time to Milan franked with 4½d adhesive tied by extremely fine "REGISTERED/G/3 AP 19/MALTA" oval d.s. (M.S.C. type REG-71a), examples of registration labels printed in black (M.S.C. type RL-VAG-31, 33, 36 & 37) and blue etc. (25 covers). £200
320 REVENUE STAMPS from reigns of QV, KEVII & KGV most of them written up on leaves in large binder, mainly loose with pen or fiscal cancellations inc. scarcer stamps such as surcharges up to 2/- on 2/6d orange-yellow (see Malta Study Circle handbook, p.340) and non-surcharged stamps also to 2/6d but also inc. the odd piece and many complete documents, chiefly receipts for the sale of potatoes but inc. scarce 1906 receipt bearing QV (sic) Revenue stamp and referring to the supply of Comino (or cumin) seed.
