1223 IRELAND - UNRECORDED (?) RED "Late Fee Paid." LABEL USED ON DUBLIN & BELFAST R.P.O. COVER; Spectacular 5 June 1879 mourning env. to Bath franked by Plate 15 2d Blue (1d postage + 1d Late Fee) just tied by an unclear numeral cancel, having a large red printed "Late Fee Paid." label alongside the stamp; there are two backstamps - "DUBLIN & BELFAST/RPO" and "BATH" (6 June) - so it seems likely that the letter was posted on the R.P.O. directly. Could the label have been used on the R.P.O.? This would explain its rarity. [Ex Brian de Burca.] PHOTO £150
