TO U.S., NOVA SCOTIA "POST/PAID" MARKS, ETC.; 1805-10 group of family letters (some interesting contents inc. one ref. preparations to be attacked by a privateer while en route across the Atlantic in 1810) mostly with postal marks but some privately carried; all dating from a difficult period for Transatlantic shipping when privateers were rife. Marks noted inc. 1810 trio to New York all with black Halifax (Nova Scotia) "POST/PAID" in circle (2 creased), six posted to the U.S. from G.B. (one with v. fine small red "POST PAID SHIP LETTER/LONDON" beside "9/28" mileage - missent to Surrey instead of going to the States! - and some with red "SHIP" marks), several to GB at Packet rates, and 3 with fair Dover/Lpool/Portsmouth "SHIP LETTER" marks.
