1376 RARE SET OF "HARRIS BROTHERS ORIENTAL SENTIMENT WAFERS" WITH ORIGINAL ENVELOPE; Spectacular c.1850 printed hand(?)-coloured envelope (minor wear; the actual example illustrated in Champness/Trapnell, colour plate 3) sealed with one of the wafers, but accompanied by 12 of the original wafers that it enclosed, each depicting a different type of flower, corresponding to the twelve listed on the envelopes flaps where their meanings are also listed. FOREIGN BRANCH "SS" IN CIRCLE MARK ON COVER EX GENEVA; 1/10 July 1819 EL from "Geneva" to Ireland with v. fine small encircled "SS" mark on the top flap matching the v. fine London dotted circle "FPO" c.d.s.. Only a few examples of this mark have been recorded, but its meaning is not yet known. It was not recorded in Barrie Jay's definitive London P.H. catalogue. 1398 RARE CROSBY FLEURON ON FRAMED "Liverpool/Py Post" COVER; 12 Sept. 1833 EL from "Mount Pleasant" to Leicester with a fair black framed "Liverpool/Py Post" on the front and a mostly very fine strike of the rare "CROSBY/[Fleuron]" (the "O" just affected by small tear) across the join on the reverse. 1399 RARE "CROSBY/[Fleuron]" MARKS ON "Liverpool/Py Post" COVERS; 10 Sept. 1829 & 7 May 1834 EL's from "Crosby" to Bakewell/Cambridge each with a mostly fine framed "Liverpool/Py Post" on the front, and both having a rare "CROSBY/[Fleuron]" mark (LL430) on the reverse; the first mostly fine and just affected by discoloured edge to sheet, the other overinked, across the join and partly overstruck. 1402 UNIQUE(?) COVER TO US WITH OVAL CROWN/SHIP LETTER MARKS OF BOTH LIVERPOOL & LONDON; Remarkable 4 Feb. 1800 EL from "London" to Philadelphia endorsed "p. the Fame, Capt. E Jones" (crossed out; presumably the letter missed this ship so was forwarded to Liverpool for another vessel) and "W.G.P.", having both a mostly v. fine double oval "Ship Letter/[Crown]/LONDON" (crease) on the front and a partly v. fine double oval "Ship Lre/[Crown]/LIVERPOOL" (scarce LL607; crease) on the flap. Apparently prepaid "10" and charged 6c US Ship Letter rate (with fine small claret encircled Philadelphia "6" mark on the front. 1404 RARE PURPLE DOUBLE-OVAL "SHIP LETTER/[Crown]/LIVERPOOL" ON COVER EX MALTA; Oct./Dec. 1811 E from "Malte" (French filing endorsement) to London endorsed "Pr. Lewis v L'Pool, Q.D.C." on the front, but also endorsed "23 Ship [letters] pr Lewis, Mediterranean" on the lower flap, with a mostly very fine purple "SHIP LETTER/[Crown]/LIVERPOOL" (LL609, crease; rare in purple - that colour only recorded for 1809) on the front. 1408 BRITISH GUIANA - RARE PRE-1840 "LIVERPOOL/EXEMPT SHIP LR" COVER; 30 Sept. 1833 EL (typed transcript) from "Demerary" to Liverpool "[Per Ship] Barton" endorsed "Consignees Letter" on the front and so having a very fine (for this) black "LIVERPOOL/EXEMPT SHIP LR" on the front (LL662 - earliest recorded date - last couple of letters just affected by filing fold), matching the near fine framed step-type "LIVERPOOL/SHIP LETTER" on the top flap.
