| 873 | ISLE OF WIGHT - VERY RARE BOXED "SHIP LETTER/ISLE of WIGHT" MARK ON COVER EX CANADA; 26 June 1819 EL (reinforced folds & minor creasing) from "Quebec" to London endorsed "p. Ship Comet, Capt. Wilcoxon", charged "1/5" with a very fine strike of the rare Rob.S2 framed "SHIP LETTER/ISLE of WIGHT" mark (only one or two examples recorded?; Robertson only records one - in an addendum - dated 1818) nicely placed on the front (the very right hand end of the mark is crossed by a light fold). There is a London arrival c.d.s. of 30 July. Tabeart speculates that this mark might have been used in London, but there is nothing to indicate that this S2 mark was struck anywhere other than Cowes or Ryde in this case.
