GADSBY", the creator of the famous 1840 labels & wafers) to Forfar (some dusting and minor wear to folds) prepaid 1d in cash with fine red Manchester c.d.s. and manuscript "1" on the front, sealed with a pink biblical Gadsby wafer seal, but also having a fine long rectangular label (white paper; setting 2) tied by the m/s "1" and the Edinburgh transit "PAID" c.d.s. This famous pro-Postal Reform label - one of only 5 recorded examples - reads as follows: "PAID.-All letters must be pre-paid./Thanks for cheap postage! - May we soon get cheap bread! - Free communication with/all parts of the empire is good: free trade with all parts of the world will be still better."
