** 865 THE FIRST NILE EXPEDITION - A NEWLY DISCOVERED OUTGOING CARD FROM THE SUDAN TO CANADA: 1884 (17 Nov) Egyptian 20p card from Gemai to Toronto cancelled on front with "WADI-HALFA" c.d.s. of 18 NOV 84 and Toronto c.d.s. of 18 Dec 1884. The message in violet crayon inc. Am sending a lot of these away & thought you might like one ....if you have time address Canadian Boatman Egypt" (the first line of the address appears to have been strengthened).The card is creased and soiled but is believed to be the earliest recorded of five (including this) outgoing items recorded. It is interesting to note that mail from the contingent is much rarer than mail inward. Photo £1200
866 CAMPAIGN TO RECAPTURE KHARTOUM, 1897-98: 1897 (Feb.) stampless env. (minor wrinkling & edge wear) to London endorsed "No stamps available Egyptian Frontier Force, G.C. Nuttall, Bimb., E.A.2 with v.fine "WADI-HALFA/CAMP" c.d.s. (26 Feb.) & matching boxed "T" on the front along with a fine "2½d/F.B./B" mark.
