The card bears a special perforated vignette in light green tied by oval "SPECIAL AIR MAIL/LONDON/CAPETOWN" violet d.s. with another strike on the address side. GLADSTONE - THE DISASTROUS THIRD NORTHWARD FLIGHT FROM KISUMU:1927 (March) env. from Nairobi "via "Kisumu & Khartoum" to Wick, Scotland carried on the 3rd Northern flight which crashed into lake Victoria. The cover is struck with the violet "Owing temporary failure/Air Service Mail/forwarded normal route" h.s.. The adhesives have floated off and the cover is water stained. A fine example of the very rare large skeleton "KHARTOUM - KISUMU/AIR MAIL" c.d.s. and red "KENYA - SUDAN/AIR MAIL" c.d.s. are struck on the front of the envelope. MITTELHOLZER: 1929 (15 Dec) envelope flown from Khartoum to Nairobi, franked with uncancelled (as is normal) 5m & 10m and with m/s "Carried by Aeroplane from Khartoum to Nairobi by kind permission of Capt.
