Research shows that this letter was carried by the brig 'Union' from Nelson to Sydney and then sent on from there to London in the barque 'Kinnear'. Very rare; few pre-1844 NZ town-marks are recorded and their use on outgoing overseas mail is exceptional. It is believed that only four other example of this mark have been recorded.
