EL from Montevideo to Bordeaux via Plymouth bearing partly fine step-framed two line "SHIP LETTER/PLYMOUTH" in black; this error was apparently noticed in London where a boxed packet letter cachet was struck over the Plymouth mark to cancel it (but, bizarrely, leaving the latter clearly visible). 558 INDIA - GARRISON MAIL: 1839 (2 April) Pre-stamp EL prepaid '2/7' with "Minehead/Penny Post" (partly overstruck by London transit mark) and encircled red "P-D." addressed to an army officer in Madras 'via Marseilles' but redirected to Secunderabad, 1864 (4 April) env. to a surgeon major in Calcutta franked with 4d & 6d adhesives (paying the 10d &Mac189;oz. rate) each tied by a London duplex and sent 'VIA MARSEILLES' (dark blue label) & Bombay the label being tied by large part oval "CALCUTTA/REDIRECTED" mark and 26 July, 1908 PPC (some staining but commemorating The Right Hon. Joseph Chamberlain's 70th birthday) sent from Coventry to a private with the Cheshire Regiment in India (again redirected) franked with a 1d KEVII adhesive and bearing sundry transit etc. marks.
