Chatty letter from the man destined to lead the British force to the 'Khyber Pass Massacre' in Jan., 1842. £90
288 MILITARY - INDIAN MUTINY - MANUSCRIPT NUMERAL ON COVER DUE TO LOOTED POST OFFICE: c. late May, 1858 env. (dated from comparison with other covers from same correspondence) addressed to 'Major Orr/ Comr. Field Force, H.C./Camp, Shahjehanpore' and endorsed 'Stamped' franked with a ½a blue adhesive cancelled by a neat m/s '130' in diamond of bars but bearing no other postal marks. Presumably this cover was sent within the war zone. This numeral was allocated to Shanjapore and it is believed that the P.O. had just reopened after being looted by the rebels which would explain the lack of handstruck marks. Attractive and rare. Also a loose adhesive cancelled by normal "129" numeral. (2 items). £100
