1521 THE VERY RARE STRAIGHT-LINE "LISSELANE" VILLAGE NAMESTAMP CANCEL ON 1d RED ON COVER; Remarkable 15 July 1857 env. (opened out for display) to London franked by a 1d Red 'stars' tied by a partly fine blue-black straight-line "LISSELANE" mark (with a second strike on the reverse beside Dublin & London c.d.s.'s). Unlike Scotland, Irish village Receiving Houses such as Lisselane (under Dublin P.O., but in Co. Cork) was not allowed to cancel stamps. Only one other similar Lisselane cover is known. 1522 RARE 'IRISH LOCAL' CANCELLATION - "KNOCKLONG" UDC - ON 1d RED COVER; Remarkable 9 Feb. 1858 mourning env. to Dublin franked by fine 1d Red 'stars' tied by a fine blue-black "KNOCKLONG" UDC (village RH under Tipperary), having a further strike on the reverse beside a Dublin arrival c.d.s. 1523 RARE 'IRISH LOCAL' CANCELLATION - 1d RED PAIR TIED BY GREENISH-BLACK "LISSELANE" UDC; 11 Apr. 1859 E to London franked by 1d Red 'stars' (one creased) tied (through perfs.) by almost very fine strike of this scarce UDC (sub-office of Bandon, Co. Cork) in a greenish black ink, with a further mostly fine strike on the flap beside Dublin & London c.d.s.'s; exceptional because the Irish villages were not allowed to cancel stamps. PC's (some toning) from the same Dublin firm to Longman & Co. in London, respectively uprated with ‡d green or &Mac189;d blue all cancelled/tied by mostly very fine single-arc "5"-code or 2-ring "5"-code "H&K PACKET" c.d.s.'s.
