1st OPIUM WAR AFTERMATH - RARE INTER-PORT NAVAL COVER FROM CHUSAN TO AMOY; Very fine 18 Nov. 1844 env. (+ long contents - full typed transcript) from Lieut. T. Miller on "HMS Agincourt, Chusan, China" addressed to "Lieut. J. Townsend, H.M.B. Plover, Amoy, China" and endorsed "Fav[oure]d. by G.F. Bateman Esqr." and sealed with a yellow wafer-seal. The long letter refers to Hong Kong, the addressee's prospects of promotion to the writer's ship, a proposed visit to Ningpo, Sir. Thomas Cochrane, and Capt. Bruce (the Captain of the 'Agincourt' whose correspondence was sold at Cavendish in Dec. 2000). Written in the final stages of the aftermath of the 1st Opium War, when Capt.
