Postmaster's Provisional 5c black (4 clear margins; red initials) with v. fine convex red New York "PAID" nearby. Transit marks incude a very fine red boxed "COLONIES/&cART.13." mark on the front beside a red "T.F." mark, and there are backstamps of London (14 July), Besancon (17 July) and Le Sentier (19 July). The letter was charged "44" on arrival. Very rare example of this Provisional franking on a cover to Switzerland. Exhibition Quality. NESBITT/N.Y." device on flap) from Boston (fair "BOSTON/BR. PKT." c.d.s. on reverse) to Burnley, cancelled by a very fine 7-bar grid, having a very fine matching black "PAID" with manuscript "24" alongside, as well as a very fine small red octagon-framed "SUPPLEMENTARY/MAIL" mark, fair red "29" and fine red "AMERICA/PAID/LIVERPOOL" d.s. (25 Oct.) all on the front. Rare example of this envelope (1st year of usage) with an overseas cash-paid Late Fee mark. [Ex Hayman.] Photo £300

WITH "GB/1F60c" ACCOUNTANCY MARKING; 7 Jan. 1857 E from Charleston (filing note) to Nantes "per Europa" via New York (red "BR.PKT." c.d.s.), franked with 1851 3c (almost 4m) and 1c pair (margins in places) all tied by 8-bar grids, having mostly fine "ETATS UNIS PAQ.BRIT./A.CALAIS.J" transit c.d.s. on the front; charged "8" on arrival with partly overstruck boxed "GB/1F60c" mark also on the front. 2639 RARE 3c-RATE PRINTED MATTER WRAPPER TO THE GERMAN STATES WITH BOXED "SUPPLEMENTARY/MAIL" MARK; Attractive 10 Aug. 1858 wrapper addressed to "Duchy of Brunswick, Germany", and endorsed "Via Bremen or Hamburgh", franked by 1857 1c blue vertical Strip of Three (almost well centred) tied by light "BELLEVILLE/ILL." c.d.s.'s, as well as by a very fine large red "PAID ALL" mark matching the v. fine small octagon-framed "SUPPLEMENTARY/MAIL" (Late Fee paid in cash) mark. There is a poor blue-green Brunswick (?) arrival c.d.s. (31 Aug.) on the reverse. Rare Transtatlantic Rate, and a rare example of the overseas Late Fee being paid on a Printed Matter cover.
