2386 St. LOUIS - DOUBLE-RING HANDSTAMP, 1854-55: Trio of ELs to France (usual filing creases, one with torn flap affecting mark) by different, named ships with fine strikes of the large double-ring DIRECTION DE LA POSTE AUX LETTRES/ST. LOUIS/SÉNÉGAL and entry marks of Toulon, Rochefort & Paulliac; the earliest has a mainly fine strike of the hollow-figure '35' colonial rate mark, the others a '4' or 'PD'. The 1854 letter refers to an impending native war but contents mainly concerned with shipping movements & trade. (3 items). £120
