INSURANCE CO. - RARE ADVERTISING 1d BLACK COVER WITH COLOUR-PRINTED FLAPS; Remarkable 4 Aug. 1840 env. (minor creasing; opened out for display) from Dunfermline to Edinburgh franked by a 1d Black (LE; good to wide margins) messily cancelled (but well tied) by an oily orange-red Malterse Cross, having all four flaps with texts advertising the "Scottish Amicable Society" printed in blue. The cover is also sealed with the very rare small embossed wafer-seal, inscribed "THANK ROWLAND HILL FOR THIS" (few examples known).
