The cover is endorsed 'p Simla' and was carried on the ill-fated European & Australian Line 'Simla' which broke down en route and limped into Suez on 24 March. Photo £300

Chalon heads cancelled by fine "62" numeral to pay the 6d per ‡oz. inter-colonial ship letter rate with large c.d.s. of Hobart and (although it apparently could not be delivered) an Auckland arrival mark. The cover also received a good strike of the scarce framed "ADVERTISED UNCLAIMED" instructional mark. Only a handful of Chalon head covers from Tasmania to New Zealand is known.
