4158 EYE WITNESS ACCOUNT OF THE BATTLE OF JUTLAND; 18 June 1916 env. to Vice Admiral Sir Arthur Limpus, Admiral Superintendent of the Dockyard at Malta, franked with ‡d green(2) tied by dumb cancel and purple "H.M.S. BENBOW/CENSOR NO.3" h.s. at lower left; with "HMS BENBOW" headed sheets(3) of notepaper, written both sides, containing a handwritten eye witness account of the Battle of Jutland by an officer, Frank Elliott. Benbow was the flagship of Admiral Sturdee and came through the battle unscathed. The letter gives great detail "From 6.30 to 6.48 we were firing at a Kaiser or Konig - slow fire .... The Warrior also passed us burning merrily ...We then passed the Invincible wreck on the Port side - an extraordinary sight - broken in two - bows & stern standing up out of the water the inboard ends being on the bottom of the sea!... at 2.0am a Zeppelin came & looked at us ...".
