| ** | 642 | VERY RARE BRITISH POST OFFICE USAGE OF A CROWNED CIRCLE WITH PORTUGUESE WORDING - "PAGO/EM/MACAO" CROWNED CIRCLE ON COVER TO PORTUGAL VIA EGYPT: 4 Feb., 1873 EL (small ink marks and other minor faults barely detract) from Macao to Lisbon 'Per via Suez' with a superb strike of the very rare Brirish P.O. "PAGO/EM/MACAO" crowned circle mark well placed on the front along with matching very fine British P.O. "B/MACAO" c.d.s. (Webb type B - very rare) with a fine black "60" Lisbon arrival charge mark; there is also a blurred March, 1873 Lisbon arrival c.d.s. on the back. Few examples of this attractive mark - which was used by the British P.O. in Macao but with Portuguese wording - have been recorded; Frazao illustrates only ten covers and does not record this one. One of the rarest of all crowned circles and a spectacular & important exhibition item. Photo | £7000 | ||||||||||||||||||||
