1488 TUNBRIDGE WELLS - LATER PRESTAMP MAIL: The interesting group of E/EL's, etc. inc. 1817 Eex Tunbridge Wells to London intended to go as a Free Frank via "Sussex" but with m/s endorsement showing the place of posting as "London" and with m/s "Put in at Tunbridge Wells", charged "1/9" in manuscript and with black Tunbridge Wells circular mileage mark (usually red), 1833 EL ex Tunbridge Wells to Newcastle-on-Tyne, apparently annotated by the Inspector of Franks in London "Posted at Tunbridge" (which would make it invalid for Free Franking - leading it to be charged full postage). CHANNEL ISLANDS POSTAL HISTORY
1545 FIRST DAY (?) COVER OF FIRST POST OFFICE SAILING TO CHANNEL ISLANDS: EL (with accounts for year ended 31 Dec., 1794) from London to Guernsey apparently carried privately or sent under separate cover to Weymouth where it received a very fine unframed curved "WEYMOUTH" (light fold through the mark) and was charged '2' in m/s to pay the newly introduced Channel Islands Packet Service rate. This cover was probably carried on the first voyage of the packet 'Royal Charlotte' on 13 Feb., 1794. Very rare and possibly unique. PHOTO - see plate no. £300

1552 DUNS - DISTINCTIVE MIXED TYPE "DUnS" - FIRST YEAR USAGE: 1731 (7 Sept.) EL to Edinburgh endorsed '2' in m/s with superb strike of mixed type but uniform size "DUnS" in lamp-black on lower flap (which opens out perfectly for display). Exhibition quality. £120

1555 KEITH - UNUSUAL MALTESE CROSS TYING 1d RED TO EL: 1841 (6 Oct.) EL to Musselburgh franked with 1d red tied by the unusual MC of Keith. Vertical filing crease clear of both adhesive and cancellation but otherwise fine. £75
1556 PEEBLES: 1861 (Feb.) A large env. used within Peebles franked with a LC14 1d block of four tied by four strikes of the "PEEBLES" c.d.s. in a blue-black shade. The cover ohas a horizontal crease which crosses the lower pair of adhesives. £60
