1287 UNRECORDED "GRANTS-HOUSE" SANSERIF UDC-CANCEL (EDINBURGH); c.1857 off-cover 1d Red "stars" cancelled solely by two slightly overlapping mostly fine strikes of a black Type XX "GRANT[S]-HOU[SE]" UDC. This small Edinburgh Receiving House's UDC is recorded (but rare) as a backstamp from 1856 to 1857, but this is the only known example of its use as a cancellation. Arguably the rarest of all Scots Local Cancellations. Not recorded by Meredith or Alcock, and never seen before by us. PHOTO £120
