(mostly fine c.d.s. of the next day on the flap); franked by a Diadem 2d Blue (almost 4 margins) tied by a very fine "260" numeral. The letter was endorsed "Registered" by the sender, and the P.O. has also endorsed it "Re[gistere]d 6d Paid. G.W.". From the creation of Queensland as a separate Colony on 15 Dec. 1859, Cross-Border mail such as this faced new higher rates of 6d instead of the previous 2d internal N.S.W. rate, and so mail smuggling in the early months of the new Colony was rife.
