Robinett & Wheelwright, Guayaquil, Republic of Colombia" (Wheelwright was to become one of the founding fathers of the P.S.N.C.) and "Care of Messrs. Munson & Barnard, Boston"; there are manuscript Forwarding Agent endorsements of George O. Lawson in "Chagres" (Dec. 1825) and Charles G. Levett (?) in "Guay[aqui]l" (June 1826) on the flaps, and the addressee has noted that he received the letter on 1st July 1826 "via Panama". The interesting family contents refer to the chronic difficulties with sending letters to South America at this date and an intriguing reference to the need for a Panama Canal; "The communication across the isthmus is more frequent than formerly, & will be more comfortable travelling when the canal is cut through".
