| 1132 | CAPE OF GOOD HOPE - RARE AND SPECTACULAR 2/4d RATE, MULTIPLE 4d BLUE FRANKING ON COVER TO HOLLAND: 1859 (18 Feb.) E (some "indelible" crayon marks affect address/one side flap removed), endorsed "Per Steamer Dane. British & Foreign rate paid" and franked by two blocks of the 4d Blue (blocks of three and four; margins all round, the latter with ironed crease) all tied by light French Hoek "C/GH" triangular grids. Quite astonishing franking for the 2/4d rate; carried by the Union Line Steamer "Dane" which inaugurated the first reliable steam Packet service to the Cape in 1857. Although this cover was not carried on the maiden voyage it is one of the very few survivors addressed to Holland with a London transit mark that exists today. Very rare thus.
