February" (stamps cover most of this endorsement) franked by a vertical Strip of Three of the 10d brown (cut square all round; mostly clear or just shaved) tied by somewhat blurred "466" numerals in a clearly BLUE INK matching the fair "LIVERPOOL" c.d.s. on the top flap. The cover is also endorsed "Registered" with a fair red "10/CENTS" Accountancy Mark and a fair red curved New York "PAID" arrival mark on the front. This unusual franking is explained by the Registered fee; a double 1/- postage rate was prepaid plus the 6d fee, making 2s-6d (30d) in all. Very rare; we cannot recall having seen any similar franking, especialy rare with this coloured cancellation!
