753 GENERAL POST OFFICE : MAIL TRAIN TIME BILLS 1887 - 1898. Each of the following 60 lots comprises an unused document, headed by the royal arms, and bearing the date and number of copies printed (usually 500). The name of each station of call, location of mail bag apparatus and expected time of arrival and departure is listed. Each was printed as a postal entire with address panel on the reverse, headed : "On Her Majesty's Service". When used, the responsible officials would postmark the bill with the date stamp of the office of despatch and enter the time of arrival at each station and reasons for any delay or incident en route. The time bills are part of the reference collection of Mr. F. McDonnell of the Department of the Inspector General of Mails, whose name appeared on the cover of the original volume. Condition is good to very good. A few have minor, unobtrusive reinforcement on the reverse with archival tissue. The documents were for internal use by the G.P.O., examples are very elusive and there are no duplicates from the collection.
