THE DISTINCTIVE MC OF WANGFORD: 1842 (8 Sept.) E from Wangford to Saxmundham franked with a two margined (shaved at top and roughly divided at left) 1d red QJ just tied by a lightly struck central example of the distinctive MC of Wangford. The cover is torn clear of the adhesive. Believed to be the only recorded example of this cancellation on cover. Note. The Wangford MC h.s. is thought to be the only surviving MC cancellor in existance. It is fully described in The London Philatelist 1973 (December) and on pages 28/29 of The Cancellations of the 1841 1d red by Goldsmith and Danzig.
