EL (archival reinforcing of folds) from London to Florence (ex Medici archive) clearly endorsed "franca p mantua" on the front; very rare thus and one of only a handful of outgoing overseas letters from London with postal endorsements pre-1635. The letter is signed by Filippo Burlamachi who was asked by King Charles I to take control of British Inland & Foreign Posts in 1640. An important early letter with an equally significant autograph. THE DENNIS BOYES COLLECTION OF YORKSHIRE POSTAL HISTORY.
The following 54 lots comprise the extremely extensive collection of Yorkshire Postal History formed by the late Dennis Boyes of Leeds. This splendid collection has been well displayed around County Societies and includes many fascinating items with a particularly strong range of Parcel Post labels and very good sections of Bradford, Leeds and York Postal History. Dennis was a long time member of the Otley Philatelic Society and had previously been a member of the Leeds Philatelic Society (where he had been President in 1984-85), a past Editor of the magazine "Yorkshire's Post" and from 1975 to 1984, Secretary of the Yorkshire Philatelic Association. Dennis was always willing to help fellow collectors with his great knowledge of his chosen subject and will be sadly missed by all his friends in the hobby..
