Atlas Clayton Works London env. used to Ferrara, Roman States franked with 1856-57 Large Garter 4d, 6d lilac and 1/- green (corner crease). The env. is a little toned and ppears to have been ironed. 1031 RUSSIA VIA BELGIUM: 1855 E (minor speckling, mostly on reverse0 from Hull to St. Petersburg "via Ostend" franked by a cut-to-shape 1/- Embossed tied by a fine "HULL/383" Spoon duplex, having a v.fine scarce BLUE UDC of Hornsea on the top flap. Scarce thus. £75
1032 SWITZERLAND/GERMANY: 1867 EL from London to Berne franked with 3d plate 4 RB & 2d. A similar 1868 cover but with 3d plate 5 SH. 1871 piece with 3d plate 6 OL. 1872 E from London to Germany franked with 3d plate 8 SD & 1d FD with oval "PD" nearby. A similar cover with the same franking but with boxed "L1" in red. Also a local 1872 Leicester cover franked with 3d plate 8. Some faults. (6 items). £80
1033 U.S.A.: 1852 (1 Aug.) env. ex Tenby to Boston (Mass.), endorsed "By first Packet from Liverpool" bearing 1d die I alphabet II and with black "24"(cents - the total rate to be paid on arrival) & "19 CENTS" (debit to U.S. Post Office). Fine & scarce thus.PHOTO - £300
1034 USA/SPAIN: 1865 (8 July) EL from Liverpool "per Africa via Queenstown" to Boston franked with a divided block of four 1865 6d lilac plate 5 AE-AF + BA-BF (the pair AE-AF being noticeably "short" stamps". Some creasing. Also 1867 (1 May) E from Liverpool to Cadiz franked with 6d lilac plate 5 AB & BA. AB with misplaced perfs. A scarce pair of covers at the respective double rate.
