TETE-BECHE 10pa BLOCK OF FOUR ON 1pi-RATE COVER FROM ZAGAZIG; Remarkable 9th Oct. 1878 EL (some toning and edge wear, etc.) from Zagazig via Cairo (transit c.d.s. on back) to Alexandria (arrival c.d.s. on back), franked by a rare Block of Four of the 10pa grey (1874-5 Bulaq printing; slight perf. staining - hinged to cover) with one stamp being tête-bêche in relation to the other three. The Block (that has had a vertical crease along the dividing preforations ironed out) is cancelled by a single central very fine blue "POSTE KHEDIVIE EGIZIANE/ZAGAZIG" c.d.s., matching the second very fine strike alongside on the cover itself. AUSTRIA/EGYPT COMBINATION COVER TO TRIESTE; Most attractive 27th June 1868 E (very slight discolouration around the stamps is barely noticeable) from Cairo (v. fine blue firm's cachet on front) to Trieste franked by Austrian Lombardy-Venetia 15s brown tied by a partly fine Austrian P.O. "ALEXANDRIEN" c.d.s., and by an Egypt 2nd Issue 1pi red which is tied both by the Austrian P.O. c.d.s. and by a very fine large "POSTE VICE-REALI EGIZIANE/+CAIRO+" c.d.s. There is a 2nd July "TRIEST" arrival d.s. on the flap. Very rare Combination Cover sent just prior to the introduction of the all-in Austrian Postal Treaty rates (from 1st Oct. 1868) which made such multi-franking unnecessary. (part flap removed and used to neatly fill two holes cut in the address) to Ajaccio, franked by Egypt 2nd Issue 1pi red tied by a very fine large ("REGIE"- removed) "POSTE EGIZIANE/SERAPEUM" c.d.s., and franked by a vertical pair of France 1869 20c blues, tied by fine dotted "5080" numerals of the French P.O. in Alexandria (fair c.d.s. nearby). THE UNIQUE(?) "3-COUNTRY-COMBINATION COVER" WITH G.B./FRANCE/EGYPT FRANKING; 8th-22nd Nov. 1875 mourning env. (opening faults at top left just clear of G.B. stamp) sent from Cairo to G.B. "Via Marseilles", franked by Egypt 3rd Issue 2pi orange tied by very fine Cairo c.d.s. and by fine red boxed "PD", as well as by France 40c orange + 80c red tied to each other by a fine dotted "5080" numeral of the French P.O. at Alexandria (fine 2-ring c.d.s. in matching ink alongside). On arrival in Sussex in England the letter was redirected to "Calvados, France" and most exceptionally was prepaid a second time using a G.B. 3d rose-red (pl.17); this was tied by a fine tall "56" numeral of "FOREST ROW" (in Sussex; part c.d.s. alongside). This is therefore a 2-country Combination Cover that has been rediretced using the stamps of a third country. Most Important and Spectacular "Triple-Combination" cover; possibly unique?! PHOTO -

There was a Greek internal rate of "20" (lepta) due from the addressee which was marked in red crayon, and so there is a Greek 20l blue Large Hermes Head (3m) also on the front, tied by a fair Syros c.d.s. POSTE EGIZIANE/SUEZ" c.d.s., having a partial large "[P]OSTE VICE-REALI EGIZIA[NE]/[GED]DA" c.d.s. across the join on the reverse.
