THE ONLY RECORDED COVER WITH THE MANIHIKI (F1) CDS CANCELLATION:1913 env. ( a little reduced at right) to France franked with Torea ‡d green and 2d brown tied by an almost complete strike of the "COOK/MANIHIKI/ISLANDS" (F1) c.d.s. Believed to be t6he only cover (found 1989) with this cancellation. A.R. Burge and F.W. Fitzpatrick only had adhesives off cover so cancelled. PHOTO -

1904 COVER FROM PANAPA ARIKA TO COL GUDGEON AT RAROTONGA: 1904 A large opened out env. from Panapa Arika to Col. Gudgeon at Rarotonga with m/s "Panapa Rakahanga in red ink franked with an uncancelled Makea 1d blue with a smudged but readable strike of the "PENRHYN ISLAND/COOK ISLANDS" (M1) cd.s. alongside. The cover has a good 22 February large "COOK ISLANDS/RAROTONGA" (A6) c.d.s on reverse. The reverse of the env has been used by Gudgeon to draft a reply to Panapa which inc. "As for men who are making trouble and interfering with the good work of the Island that is with the Council. Bring them before me and they shall be treated like Taupe. The scum of Tahiti shall not dirty the waters of Rakahanga.I have faith in you and the Council elected by the people of the island and your work shall not be interfered with".
