THE EARLIEST RECORDED LETTER FROM ATUTAKI SENT TO ENGLAND VIA USA: 1854 (9 Nov.) EL from Atutaki "per [ship] John Williams" via USA to London. The EL from Henry Hoyle was landed at "NEW BEDFORD/MASS" (near fine blue c.d.s. and matching "SHIP" h.s.), circular "BOSTON/US PKT" c.d.s. and "AMERICA/LIVERPOOL" transit c.d.s., charged in m/s 98c crossed out with "22" above and "4/1" final rate being the cost of transportation..
