THE SIR HENRY MADDOCK (c1800-1875) CORRESPONDENCE.

The following 24 lots comprise the Indian section of the recently discovered correspondence and papers of the Deputy-Governor of Bengal (1845-49), Sir Henry Maddock. Fortunately for collectors he kept most of his letters' envelopes carefully filed inside his letter sheets and so the Postal History has survived alongside the political history. Of particular note are the large numbers of very scarce, oval "FREE" marks (many unrecorded by Hammond-Giles) in these lots. The rest of the Maddock papers can be found in this Catalogue under the Military Postal History, Afghanistan, Burma and Nepal sections..
