PRINTED PICTORIAL ENVELOPE WITH IRISH TOURIST VIEWS INSIDE - SENT FROM DUBLIN TO GERMANY; Spectacular 4th Oct. 1870 env. (opened out for display of the inside, with flap fault and some reinforced edge wear) sent from Dublin to Frankfurt (sent via "Germany via Belgium" - presumably because of the Siege of Paros that started almost on the day this letter was sent) franked by 3 1d Red Plate Nos. (pl.140) tied by light duplexes. Inside the envelope there are nine printed vignettes:- one is floral and the others show "Dublin Bay", "Powerscourt Fall", "Glendalough", "Killiney Bay", "The Salmon Leap, Leixlip", "Waterfall, Devil's Glen", "Kingstown", "Meeting of the Waters" and "Bray". There is an inscription; "THE PATENT PICTORIAL OPAQUE ENVELOPE, No.524" on the top flap. Very rare; we can only recall having seen one other such multi-view envelope (which had the same views and was also Eureka No.524, suggesting that maybe there was only the one design produced and not 500+ !?
