** 481 SPECTACULAR "TURNED" COVER WITH 1840 2d BLUE: 1842 (Sept.) use of attractive 3# margin (sheet margin on R) example of the 1840 2d Pl.2 (QL) just tied by clear Edinburgh MC; re-used in October to Dunbar with v.fine 1d red (HH) on blued paper; slight toning/filing folds. The cover is folded so that both stamps are displayed. Rare & most attractive exhibition piece. PHOTO - £1000

** 485 9TH MAY 1840 COVER CHARGED "2" IN ERROR AND CORRECTED AS THE ADHESIVE WAS ON THE BACK: 1840 (9TH MAY) EL from "Bora" to Horseley Down franked on the reverse with a 1d plate 1a OJ tied by a red MC. The adhesive which was placed on the reverse of the cover was originally missed and a h.s "2" was struck over a "T.P. Borough" h.s. When the adhesive was spotted the h.s. "2" was cancelled with a fine red MC. The cover bears on reverse a fine boxed "PD/MY 9/1840" h.s. A portion of the address panel is torn away. A very early date and most unusual used of a 1d as a letter seal. PHOTO - £350
