The backing paper is perforated between the panes as issued. Scarce. This booklet and the following four lots were purchased by an engineering business from the Burton Upon Trent P.O. Some were placed on envelopes for posting, a few were used as it was not until the mail clerk complained to the boss about how difficult it was to tear the new stamps that the error was noticed!. ##.

THOMAS: 1869 Large part E (extensive tears along folds) franked with 2 x 4d G.B. adhesives cancelled by "C51" oval mark of St. Thomas addressed to Pto Plata (Dominica) and endorsed in m/s "p Montezuma", a ship of the Spanish Mail Packet Line which held the British P.O. contract 1861-71 for mail to Pto Plata. (The 1864 Royal Mail Steam Packet contract did not provide for service to Pto Plata and Stone does not record any covers from St. Thomas by this line to Pto Plata). Tatty but very scarce.
