THE VERY RARE 'M'-CODED 2nd TYPE PEARSON HILL EXPERIMENTAL MACHINE CANCELLATION ON COVER: 3 Feb. 1858 env. (minor edge wear & filing notes on front well clear of stamp & marks) to Haverfordwest, franked by a 1d Red 'stars' tied by a very fine strike of the 'LONDON/LONDON' 2nd type Pearson Hill Machine Cancellation with the very rare 'M' for 'Morning' code. The strike is distinctively shortened at the top and this is equally clear on the fine offset on the reverse; perhaps the machine was wrongly set up? THE 'JG' POSTCARD MACHINE DUPLEX ON COMPLETE CARD: Rare 5 Jan 1871 usage of the small format  d lilac postcard from London to Suffolk cancelled by a mostly very fine strike of the short-lived '89' in grilled diamond 'LONDON' duplex with 'JG'-coded rectangular datestamp ( the numeral is faint within the grid because it was removable: see next lot).
