THE J.D. LOVERIDGE COLLECTION OF THE DÉPARTMENT OF CHER, c1770-1950: The superb and comprehensive study of the postal markings of the Départment of Cher, beautifully and meticulously written up and contained in eleven 'SAFE' albums and a boxfile. There is considerable emphasis throughout on the smaller communes, rural boxes & bureaux de distribution, including examples of very scarce marks, some being the only recorded examples of their type; another notable feature is the group of franchise covers and wrappers, many with scarce VU inspection h.s. The majority of the material is from the 19th Century with the occasional Office being illustrated up to c1950. The collection formed the basis for the owner's monograph on the marks of Cher - the section on Sancerre was published and a copy is included - the rest was completed, ready for publication and the word-processed final draft is included with the lot, as are two earlier booklets on the Départment. Such a study would be very difficult indeed to assemble today - a tremendous opportunity! (423 covers).
