ONE OF ONLY TWO RECORDED RED REVENUE CARDS WITH THE LARGE "T" APPLIED AT THE IMPERIAL POST OFFICE CHUNGKING - THE ONLY ONE CENT TYPE A AND B COMBINATION ON CARD - A SINO-FRENCH COMBINATION - A CHUNGKING DOLLAR DATER: 1897 (22 October) Chungking Local Post 2 candarins postcard from "Kia ting W. China" to Prestonpans, Scotland with Christmas and New Year greetings, franked with large 1c. on 3c deep red types A and B, type A with very minor defects at left, tied by a full Chungking doller dater of 22nd October, a large handstruck "T" in red, Shanghai dollar dater in combination with French P.O. "Chine" 5c tied by c.d.s. of 4 November, triangular framed "T", British "4D/F.B." and Prestonpans arrival c.d.s. Some minor creasing and a tiny puncture at upper right. The Chungking Local Post card had no validity outside the local post system, so the sender deleted the face value of "2 CANDAREENS" prior to despatch. A great rarity, a similar card from the same correspondence addressed to London realised HK $115,000 in 1996. |
