Bank" with Victoria Falls cancel of 15 June, a card with a full size view of the Falls inscribed "Gorge below Falls showing spray at exit" sent on the same day to the same recipient, 1907 card advertising the "South African Products Exhibition" at the Royal Horticultural Hall showing FW Sykes view of the Falls which was used as the basis of the 1905 Falls issue, 1910 card from Broken Hill to Liege (Belgium) depicting two ladies on board a train on the way to Victoria Falls, 1911 card with a full size view inscribed "Victoria Falls, Rhodesia. 1 Mile wide, 400 Feet deep" addressed to Torquay, 1911 card with a full size view inscribed "The Zambesi above the Falls" sent from Broken Hill to Elizabethville (Belgian Congo) and 1911 card with a full size view inscribed "View from North Bank" sent from Broken Hill to Hamburg. 644 WRAPPERS: 1916 (December?) ½d Admiral green on buff newspaper wrapper used locally within Gwelo. Higgins & Gage do not list such a wrapper - a single delivery of 5,000 was made in August 1916 according to the National Archive Stamp Registers but survival rate is very low - only a few examples are known. 651 ILLUSTRATED ENVELOPES: 1893 Illustrated envelope inscribed "MATABELE/POSTAL JUBILEE" with a cartoon figure crawling into the Royal Kraal in 1843 ("The Royal Male 1843 - crawling into the Royal Kraal - ¼ mile an hour) and a caricature of Lobengula racing along at speed inscribed "The Royal Male - 1893 - Leaving Buluwayo at 30 miles an hour". 660 ROYAL TOURS - 1925: The small group comprising cover (roughly opened) bearing Admiral 1½d tied by special Royal Tour cancellation with Coat of Arms above (another example of same is situated at the bottom left hand corner of the cover), addressed to Mrs. A.T. Harpham, in Salisbury, sent by her husband, Major Arthur Harpham, second in command of the Tour. (Harpham later became Lt. Colonel & Postmaster General of Southern Rhodesia), another cover bearing defective 1½d showing a further example of the same cancellation; plus 1d & 1½d on small pieces with large portions of the special cancellation. The cover has type-written "Closing of Hillside Camp Post Office/20th April 1945". Scarce thus. £50

This card was probably written and censored aboard a British ship which called at Dakar. £55

'Waterwitch', a naval survey ship, which is thought to have called at Freetown on her outward voyage to the South West Pacific. Grant to Carl Giegler, Director of Sudan & Red Sea Posts and Telegraphs regarding a proposed overland cable from the Cape of Good Hope to Cairo via Khartoum & Tete to Pretoria. This letter was written four days before the battle of Isandhlwana which led to a chain of events which precipitated the hastening of telegraphic communication between London & the Cape. An important historical document. £180
