535 THE GLOVER CORRESPONDENCE consisting of ELs written by one John Glover in the period 1782-1837, many with postal markings such as several different "GLOUCESTER/Penny Post" marks and mostly addressed to his daughter Lucy, along with supporting contemporary ephemera. Apart from his manufacturing interest in "Oil of Vitriol" (i.e. sulphuric acid), Glover clearly worked as a "Chapman" (i.e. salesman) judging from the letters which were despatched from as far afield as Scotland and London. Whatever the precise nature of Glover's occupation, sadly he did not succeed financially as the ephemera pack includes details of his bankruptcy! A fascinating accumulation of social history.
